Honest Beauty – checking out new clean makeup

Honest Beauty-Clean Makeup

When I heard the Honest Company was coming out with cosmetics I was excited. We need more clean beauty choices. I always find it interesting that the aisles of toxin filled beauty products are numerous while the “natural” beauty choices are limited to half an aisle if that.

I keep my skin care very clean but am a little more lax with beauty products. Occasionally I use something that’s not totally clean but always reach for the cleanest products to use on a daily basis.

Honest Beauty products are free from these: parabens, phthalates, paraffins, formaldehyde carriers, PEGs, steareth-n, propylene glycol, butylene glycol, petrolatum, mineral oil, or synthetic fragrances.

Green beauty purists (those who are militant about ultra clean ingredients, the vegans of the beauty world) will want to look a little further into the exact ingredients but for me, knowing the big toxins are not in these products satisfied my standards for makeup.

I tested a few items from The Honest Company and they were all very good. I absolutely loved the Primer which did an A+ job of prepping skin and making my foundation look luminous.

It contains a little bit of a golden hue which warmed up my complexion slightly and each time I looked in the mirror, I thought, “Not bad!”

The Lip Crayon was soft and imparted great pigmented color. It also kept my lips very hydrated and felt light and non-sticky. This product contains coconut oilmurumuru butter and shea butter to keep your mouth moisturized.

The Eye Shadow Trio features a pigmented, finely milled powder that can be built to produce a smoky eye. I love the lightest color which has a subtle shimmer – I wear that one often with the darkest color as an eyeliner along the lash line, applied with an angled brush.

Last is the Magic Balm,  a multi-use product that can be used anywhere. I use it on my cuticles, after applying moisturizer before sleep on my frown lines, anywhere that needs a surge of moisture and hydration. I’ve been dabbing it around the eye area too.

This contains a blend of oils, most of which are organic. Its a fabulous product to slip into your purse for use throughout the day.

I really like the packaging, the website design, the disclosure of ingredients, the fact the products are not tested on animals and I like the products themselves. You can order directly off the website and I’m sure its only a matter of time before these products find their way into brick and mortar stores.
