How I take care of my skin in my 40s

40-something-year-old-woman-smiling

I wish I hadn’t spent time roasting on the beaches of the Jersey Shore when I was a teenager so I am now spending time trying hard to reserve the damage. If there is any advice I can give you, its TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN!

Even when I am sick or tired, I always wash my face. I love a good makeup wipe and I also really like the inexpensive facial cleanser from Trader Joes, it’s $5.99, lasts about six weeks and removes mascara and all other face makeup.

Now, onto…

the best products for the skin.

These are what I have been putting to the test lately and I’m impressed!

Clarity Take Care Daily AntiOxidant Red Tea Serum exceeded my expectations.  It has a light consistency and sinks into skin with no residue.  You can apply makeup right over it and it’s not greasy, oily, heavy. Ideal for the heat of the summer!

Here’s what the company says about this product:

This serum gives your skin a healthy dose of free radical fighting antioxidants for optimal environmental protection. Pure South African red tea has an exceptional effect on the skin, reducing inflammation, irritation, combating the signs of aging and soothing sun damage and acne. This all-inclusive skin care treatment is your key to healthy, glowing skin.

The South African Red Tea contains antioxidants which we all know are good inside and outside the body, this light serum also reduces irritation, inflammation, infuses skin with nutrients and helps with acne. This is something everyone, at any age, can use. A few drops are all that’s needed for the face.

I love using this in the morning under my makeup. I highly recommend you check it out- go here for more!

Another cleanser that I love is from Chelsea Wang, the Restoring Facial Cleanser is amazing!

I have also been loving the Revitalizing Facial Serum.   First of all, the website is so clean and beautiful, I was instantly intrigued when I looked at it. Check it out here.

Second, they have showcased their skincare products by recommending this routine:

Step One: Wash with your skin-type specific Cleanser (morning & evening)

Step Two: Spritz your clean skin with skin-type specific Toner to close pores and minimize blemishes (morning & evening)

Step Three: Apply Revitalizing Facial Serum to reduce fine lines and wrinkles while adding moisture (evening)

Step Four: Apply skin-type specific Facial Oil for perfect hydration (morning & evening)

Finding a good cleanser is difficult because so many of them sting my eyes or aren’t geared for removing all makeup. I want one cleanser to take away all cosmetics from mascara to eyeliner to foundation, with no residue.

The Restoring Facial Cleanser smells so good thanks to jasmine, its gentle and leaves skin looking bright and fresh.  Made with ingredients like  Organic Rosa Damascena, Organic Sunflower Oil, plus Organic Laminaria Digitata (Sea Kelp) and more, it’s extremely soothing. It won’t strip natural oils so your face is left looking and feeling soft and clean.

The Revitalizing Facial Serum is another winning product, it contains high-potency hyaluronic acid. I am always reading how people should include skin care with hyaluronic acid because it helps plump up tired, wrinkled skin. And if you are over forty, you know your skin needs some plumping!

This serum has a wonderful consistency, my skin loves it. I pat on a few drops of this and skin just drinks it up! I then apply a face oil or moisturizer on top of this to seal in the moisture.  I love the two products I have tried from Chelsea Wang and know you will love them as well.

There are many products from this brand geared towards various skin types and concerns. There is a body care collection that looks especially lovely!

I have long been a fan of Avene products! I think its been at least ten years since I have been using items from this line. I am really into Retin A skincare, ever since the dermatologist told me its the only way (besides lasers) to get rid of the little dark spots that have been showing up on my face, neck, and chest.

I use this a few times a week.

The Retrin 0.1 Cream:

  • Powerful anti-oxidant protects the skin from free radicals
  • Skin appears fuller, firmer and toned
  • Improves skin tone

This product does not dry out my skin like other Retin A products tend to do. I use a small amount for each side of my face plus my neck and chest, anything left over gets applied to the tops of my hands. The trick with this is to be consistent. You want to use this on a regular basis which is how it keeps working and reducing deep wrinkles and dark spots.

I find that it helps keep dark spots light, pores are smaller, skin is brighter.  Avene is a brand that is made for skin that is more sensitive so if you require gentle products, Avene is the brand you need to explore.

This is also good to know:

All of our products are manufactured and tested under strict quality control guidelines set by the Pierre Fabre Group. All of our formulas are compliant with current European legislation and have been clinically tested by dermatologists to ensure they provide excellent results of efficacy and tolerance, even for people with hypersensitive or atopic (eczema prone) skin.

Another product I have had great success with is from Glytone. This is another respected brand that offers a wide range of products for various skin concerns. I’ve used many Glytone products over the years. This is one of my favorites!

The Night Renewal Cream has made a significant improvement on sun damaged skin on my chest. This absorbs quickly and I love using it all over my face, neck, chest. Not only does it help to even out skin tone but it lightens pigmentation, reduces dark /sun spots, evens skin tone and makes the skin look brighter.

This is a five-star product and one that I recommend you use, even every other night. I try to alternate between this cream and the ones I have mentioned in this review, I keep it consistent and never skip a night of my skincare routine.

This cream:

  • Visibly evens skin tone
  • Reduces the appearance of sun spots
  • Minimizes the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles

I can tell you from my experience that it does what it says it’s going to do! I used to use the Mini Peel (until I ran out) and loved how my skin looked after using it, now I have my eye on the Eye Cream. There are lots of products in this line to help with whatever you need. Glytone is a well-respected brand that I really like.
