I’m sure you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Who hasn’t had their lives affected by Breast Cancer? My mother and both grandmothers had it. There are times when I feel like a ticking bomb. I had a cancer scare a few years ago, luckily everything turned out okay but it was an awful time. Thank goodness there are lots of charities and places for women to educate themselves. And the month of October is about raising money to support these charities. Breast Cancer Awareness Month also reminds us to have our mammograms! I’ve had several and they are no big deal. Ten minutes of discomfort for twelve months of peace.

Valerie Beverly Hills, has launched an exclusive campaign for the month of October 2009, GLOSS FOR A CAUSE, where 30% of the proceeds of Valerie’s Luv Lip Gloss will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrfcure.org).

Jenny B Clothing, Hollywood’s admired casual apparel line, has launched a pink “Heartburn” tee from her collection to coincide with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month which runs throughout October.

Haute Betts  has created the “Liberation” bracelet on behalf of the breast cancer month of October. The Haute Betts “Liberation” bracelet is made of semi precious pink shell circular beads to symbolize the never ending fight for “Action, Advocacy, and Awareness” in breast cancer. This is sold at participating stores and on www.hautebetts.com.  Haute Betts will donate 35% of proceeds to The Young Survival Coalition.

 Purple Lab has partnered with the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation to launch SWAC “SEALED WITH A CURE,” a feel good lip gloss equipped with ingredients that boost beauty, health and confidence. SWAC has been delivered to help increase awareness and funds for Triple Negative Breast Cancer research. A portion of the proceeds will go to the foundation.

During the month of October, Aveda will donate $4 from the sale of each Breast Cancer Awareness Hand Relief to the BCRF to help advance the understanding of environmental links to breast cancer.

This fall, ghd launches an exclusive limited edition set developed in support of the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), an organization that is dedicated to helping women under 40 who have been touched by breast cancer. Following the success of past campaigns, ghd pledges to donate $15 to the YSC (www.youngsurvival.org) for every ghd Pink Limited Edition gift set sold.

OPI has created a Pink of Hearts Nail Lacquer to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to raise awareness of breast cancer during October.  In 2009, OPI will donate $25,000 to Komen for the Cure.  Pink of Hearts is a pretty, empowering light pink – a color meant to inspire and uplift. Pale pink is my go-to shade for polished nails and this  is a color you will use all year long. It reminds me of a ballerina’s tutu.

Donations will be accepted at every ULTA store (all 333 locations nationwide) to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®.  ULTA will guarantee a minimum donation of $50,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and invites consumers to help in ULTA’s goal to raise one million dollars to support the fight against breast cancer. Customers who donate:    $1 can register for a chance to win a beauty bag of pink products; one winner per store will be chosen by random drawing after October 31.    $10 or more will receive a pink “love” hat or scarf (pictured above).

On September 27, P&G will distribute ‘Give Hope’ brandSAVER coupons to over 52.5 million households.  For every coupon redeemed, P&G will make a donation to help drive awareness and find a cure.  Both the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Susan G. Komen Foundation will be recipients of donations to support this important cause.  For every Venus fan out there, this is an easy and “smooth” way to Get Closer to the Cause – you purchase, we donate, we all get one step closer to the tools and resources that save women’s lives.

 The new pink Venus Embrace will be accessorized with a breast self-exam “how-to” booklet.  According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, self-exams should be performed monthly (around the same time the average woman changes her razor blade). *This razor rocks! I use mine all the time for legs, arms etc. It leaves my skin soft and gets all the hard to reach spots. I highly recommend it!

Marcia Kilgore and her ubiquitous footwear brand, FitFlop, are taking a stand… against breast cancer that is.  This October, FitFlop will donate a portion of all proceeds from the latest “it” style – the pink Ultra-Lounge ($79.99) – to breast cancer research in the hopes of decreasing the statistic that 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.  *I love my FitFlops…now I want these, they look so comfy!
