Don’t Forget These 10 Items On Your Cruise

If you are going on a cruise this summer- LUCKY!- I have some tips for you.

I have been on many cruises and have learned a lot which I am happy to share and have done so over at Always5Star, a luxury travel blog run by Pam Rossi. Check over there frequently as I am always working on travel articles!

Here is a partial list of things you must pack when you head out on a cruise!

Sun Bum Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 30, 8-Ounce

• sunscreen

I like using this Sun Bum Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30. It smells beachy and tropical. When the summer rolls around, this is what I use. I love the scent and it dries quickly, doesn’t leave any residue. I keep a small face stick in my purse so I can apply during the day for touch-ups.

• sunglasses

The style and shape are really subjective but no matter what your preference, you must bring them! I have some Ray-Ban Wayfarers but they are not as comfortable on my face as an old pair of Warby Parker sunglasses that I wear all the time.

I found these which are a classic style, similar to the ones I wear but much cheaper!

• antibacterial wipes

I have been known to get inside the cruise cabin and pull out a few wipes then proceed to clean the remote control, phone, door knobs, light switches. I have also used these on flights where I read that seat belts are magnets for germs! I don’t know a ton of antibacterial wipe brands, I have these in my Amazon shopping cart right now.

• wrinkle release spray

On a formal night, you might dress up in a fancy dress or something that is dry clean only and has wrinkled throughout travel. A few spritzes with this and wrinkles are gone! I like buying the small travel size which is easier and lighter to pack.

Trader Joe's 100% Pure Jojoba Oil 4 Oz

• makeup remover

I have a few different kinds of makeup remover that I like and will link to all of them. My favorite is one that I buy from Trader Joes, it’s $5.99 and removes everything even mascara.

You can also use a good oil that serves many purposes. I like this one from Trader Joe’s– use it to remove makeup, your nighttime moisturizer, body moisturizer, rub on dry and tired feet, use a tiny bit to smooth ends of hair, use on sunburn. I usually have a small bottle of Jojoba or Coconut oil with me for these purposes.

Here are a few more that I like:

Philosophy Purity Made Simple One-Step Cleanser and here is the smaller version for travel.

Burts Bees Cleanser for Sensitive Skin

Aveeno Ultra Calming Cleanser and Makeup Remover

• safety pins

I cannot tell you how many times I wish I had safety pins with me. A must- have. Put a few in your purse or backpack. And then keep them there. These are sitting in my Amazon cart right now.

• band-aids

Several years ago I went to New York City with some friends and wore horribly ill-fitting shoes. I think all of us did. Not one of us prepared to walk as much and as far as we did. My heels were raw from where my ballet flat rubbed against the skin and even sneakers were too painful to wear. I popped into Duane Read and bought a bunch of band-aids then wore flip flops for the rest of the trip.

Its totally common sense but I always forgot to pack band-aids until then. Now I try to carry a few in my makeup bag at all times, you never know when you are going to need one or two. On vacation, you have to bring them. You’re going to be walking, hiking, exploring, you don’t want to get blisters!

These are what I have at home and will bring a baggie of them in my suitcase!

Travel Wristbands,Travel Motion Sickness Relief Wrist Band,Natural Nausea Relief, 2-Pair

• motion sickness pills

Though I enjoy cruises, I don’t enjoy having motion sickness which I do about 90% of the time if I don’t take something.

I’ve seen many people with natural relief patches, pressure point bracelets and anti-nausea wristbands. I typically don’t stop taking motion sickness pills throughout the whole trip. One a day works well for me and these are exactly what I use.

• hand sanitizer

I currently have two small bottles in my tote bag right now of hand sanitizer! I’m not a total germaphobe but after being out, I like to clean my hands. Think about doorknobs and everything else you touch while in public!

I will do anything to remain healthy. I like gentle hand sanitizers without toxic chemicals.

I use this one or this one.

• pill holder for small items like earrings

I have this one! It works well to separate small things like earring and the above-mentioned safety pins or anything else you can think of that’s small. You could use this one for your supplements, pills and your jewelry- it’s so big, note the 10% coupon, use that now.

I wrote a comprehensive post about first time cruising, especially with food allergies, over on Always5Star which you can read by going here.
