Photos of the California Superbloom

In case you missed the super bloom or don’t live in or near California, I wanted to share some of my photos!

These beautiful poppies and other wildflowers sprung up in February while it was still cool outside. With my trusty Canon camera, I  headed out to see the poppies up close and in person.

Last year, I saw someone post gorgeous photos from Anza Borrego’s super bloom but by the time I got out there, the bloom was over and all that was left was brown plants and gray rocks. You can read about that adventure by  going to Always5Star here.

I drove to Lake Elsinore where this super bloom was taking place. Even from a distance, you could see the orange flowers covering the mountains. It was absolutely stunning and I can completely understand why people were pulling off the road to take photos.

You can’t tell from these photos, but people were everywhere!  Lots of girls staging Instagram photo shoots and parents taking pics of their children in the poppies.

Thanks to an incredible rainfall, this year’s poppy explosion drew a record number of people over to experience this visual treat.

Next year, if you want to see the wildflowers in person, keep in mind the following places:

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

Coachella Valley Preserve

Joshua Tree National Park
