2016 Favorites

I feel very fortunate to read many great books, see some good movies, and of course, test and review numerous beauty products this year. Here are my favorites of everything!

2016 Favorite Books

Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Ed Tarkington

I absolutely loved this coming of age story. I rarely give out five stars on Goodreads but this one deserved it! (as do all of the others on this list) If you haven’t read this book, do so now.

Cruel Beautiful World by Caroline Leavitt

Caroline is a very gifted storyteller. I have yet to read one of her novels and not fall in love. Her latest masterpiece is set in the 60’s and features a teenage runaway and the sister who looks for her.

Be Frank With Me by Julia Claiborne Johnson

Definitely one of the top picks for my favorite book of the whole year. I loved the story, the setting, the characters, the voice. Everything. So much so I wrote to the author to tell her how much I loved the book.

You’ll Grow Out of It by Jessi Klein

Jessi Klein’s real life stories will have you laughing out loud. Most of them are absolutely hilarious and I hope she follows this up with another book.

Love Warrior by Glennon Doyle Melton

I picked this one up after a friend raved about it. And wow. It’s a winner. Glennon has a true gift of wringing every drop of emotion from her life experiences and writing about them. I couldn’t put this down.

The Assistants by Camille Perri

It’s really difficult to write a funny book that’s intelligent and includes a good storyline but Camille did this effortlessly. You root for the heroine and question if you’d make the same choices she did. This is a quick, smart book.

Guilty As Sin by Edward Klein

I couldn’t help it, this political year had me swallowed up. I read numerous books on Hillary Clinton but none so compelling as this. Edward Klein is an accomplished researcher and writer, he’s not a random guy penning a smear campaign. This book is a must read.

The Reason You’re Alive by Matthew Quick

I got a sneak peek of this and devoured it. Due out in 2017, its another novel that takes an interesting, if slightly grumpy, main character, gives him some bumps and twists and leaves you rooting for him.

Other faves include Everything’s Relative by Jenna McCarthy, The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena, Her Every Fear by Peter Swanson.

Favorite Products of 2016

Mahalo’s Unveil Balm Cleanser- I use this every evening and love how soft and clean my skin is left. A winner! Also noteworthy is Mahalo’s Rare Indigo balm.

Josh Rosebrook’s new scent which was just released, Ethereal. It’s my most used fragrance, hands down. Soft, light, uplifting and made from natural ingredients, this is a treat for the senses. I am a HUGE fan of everything Josh creates.

Coola Makeup Setting spray really locks your makeup into place all day. I use this almost daily. Contains natural ingredients and an spf of 30!

Everything I tried from Kahina was a wonderful experience from the Eye Cream to the fragrance to the Prickly Pear Seed Roller Ball oil. A long time favorite of mine, this brand is pure ingredients and nurturing to the skin.

I also loved Phyto Pigments from Juice Beauty, Mineral Fusion cosmetics, W3LL People’s mascara and their Universalist Multi-Sticks

All of the makeup from the above brands was outstanding.  I have to add Kari Gran’s lip whips to my list of faves too.
