Caring for your teeth, naturally

It was the possibility of having my second root canal that sent me running for the hills…or rather, surfing the web. I needed help, stat! I had a terrible toothache that my dentist said was an infection. Panic set in and I made the mistake of  looking on the internet which always leads to trouble!

Imagines of a toothless smile (worst case scenario) played in my head as I looked at photos of missing teeth, crowns, implants and more fun and exciting images. I sat thru a YouTube video of an oral surgery too. Thankfully none of my fears came to fruition but I did learn quite a bit.

What I found that was helpful was that Clove Oil works wonders for a toothache. I  dabbed a small amount on the tooth and gums, instant relief from the pain! “The aromatic chemical in clove called eugenol numbs pain and kills bacteria.”  (source)

I also discovered something called Padma Basic. Not Padma Lakshmi from Top Chef.

Padma Basic is “Padma Basic is a highly researched herbal supplement consisting of 18 dried and milled herbs and spices, together with natural camphor and calcium sulfate. These ingredients are naturally rich in antioxidant substances supporting healthy circulation and general immune health in the body.” (source)

Padma Basic can be effective in treating: memory problems, tinnitus, visual problems, back and joint pain, dizziness, and fatigue. It also helps with inflammation which as you know can be the source of many diseases.

From Living Libations I bought Gum Drops, a healthy blend of oils to remedy problems with the gums and teeth. This product contains “super-critical extracts and essences of seabuckthorn berry, rose otto, oregano, peppermint, clove, tea tree, cinnamon, and thyme linalool. These organic and wild-crafted ingredients create an effective anti-bacterial, anti-fungal anoint for all aspects of oral care.” I felt like this product also helped my teeth and gums.

Nadine Artemis from Living Libations has a lot of information about caring for your teeth- in fact, I stayed up late the other night watching her You Tube videos about teeth! Here’s one:

The last product I discovered is Bee Propolis!

“Propolis is a resinous substance created by bees and they use it around the entrance other parts of the hive to seal cracks. This helps to protect the hive from fungal, viral and bacterial infections. Honeybees collect resin and then mix it with enzymes and beeswax to make propolis. It is used by humans for its beneficial health effects including in the area of oral health.” (source)

According to Dr. Mercola, Bee Propolis is “has been found to prevent the formation of dental plaque by inhibiting the activity of certain enzymes that synthesize glucans from sucrose.”

I stay away from toothpaste with sodium laurel sulfates and flouride choosing natural brands instead.

I’ve  read to use coconut oil and baking soda as a natural toothpaste which will whiten and clean teeth.  If you have any secrets, let me know!
