If I were a stylist… Academy Awards edition

I’ve been having way too much fun with Polyvore.com! I love creating outfits and playing stylist. Since I pretty  much live for the gowns and makeup of the awards season, I thought I would play stylist for the top actresses and create looks for them. I could do this all day. Its like playing dress up while sitting in a chair in front of the computer.

All the looks can be found on Polyvore.com including the makeup. Read on…

For Penelope Cruz I chose a long, soft gray dress with  pink accessories. I love those chunky earrings. Pen can pull off a bold eye AND lip so why not do both? Dark red nails and false eyelashes. I love her hair in a chignon or bun.

Sandra Bullock can pull off glamour for the Academy Awards this year, right? I want to see her with red lipstick, black nails and strappy shoes. I love love love this dress. I think the color would look fabulous on her and the slightly funky accessories are a little shout-out to her biker husband. Her hair pulled back into a low ponytail would look good, or maybe wear it down with a soft curl. I don’t like weird styles or side ponytails.

I picked two looks for young actress Carey Mulligan. On one hand, she could go girly and the other, she could be elegant. I’m madly in love with that blue ring. And I’d love to wear the one -shoulder black dress.  I can imagine her with neutral makeup and maybe just a pop of color here and there.I put together four looks here. Meryl Streep could wear a flattering gray dress with light pink makeup and silver accessories, hip but age appropriate. Helen Mirren seems to gravitate towards  gray-silver-gold toned dresses and I’d like a dark red lip and a contrasting evening bag for her. Vera Farmiga looked so pretty in that diaphanous gown she wore at the SAG awards, she could stay with that look in this dress. And Mo’nique must go bold! Purple Nars lips and nails with a strapless royal blue number and hot pink shoes.

I don’t know much about Gabourey Sidibe but I think this Philosophy gel sums up her awards season- Celebrate Dreams! I chose a dress with long sleeves, as evidenced by her picture from the Globes, I think she’s comfortable in this kind of gown. Low heels and funky accessories. I like the MAC nail polish called Light Affair and a nice pinky-red lip. Play up her eyes. Simple hair.
