The Travel Files: My Favorite Place to Cruise

It’s no secret that my husband LOVES to cruise and for every vacation, we usually (and by usually, I mean always) hop on a cruise ship and go somewhere amazing. While my husband likes the fact that you unpack once, know where you’re going to eat, don’t have to drive anywhere and there is a ton to do if you so desire, I just like seeing different places and taking photos.

All of my down time is spent reading. Any time outside is spent with my camera. I will wander off by myself and spend hours taking pictures. But if you want to join an excursion, there are always many, many choices.

We have done so many fun things, I am very grateful to have had those experiences and hope everyone reading this gets to head up to Alaska and see for yourself how amazing it is!

After going on many, many cruises, I have my favorites (the Panama Canal was pretty awesome) and the place I am always eager to return to is Alaska. If you are thinking about an Alaskan cruise, DO IT.

In fact, everyone should go just for the experience. The first time we went, I was in awe over every little thing. Eagles in trees, glaciers, nature everywhere you look. The slightly rainy, drizzly weather didn’t get me down as it typically does here in California.

When you’re in a place like Alaska, you are stunned by the raw beauty and a little rain won’t get you down! Pack a good rain coat and umbrella and if you’re always cold as I am, don’t forget the gloves. And hat. And scarf.

If you do take an Alaskan cruise, my favorite things to do are excursions that bring you out into nature. Whale watching, crabbing, hiking, getting on a canoe and floating around a glacier, heading to a park, these capture the essence of Alaska. Clean, crisp air, verdant green trees, mountains that rise along the horizon, water as calm as glass only interrupted by the occasional blow hole of a whale…

I have received many questions about cruising and I will be answering them all with my ongoing travel series!

“What cruise line would you recommend?” is a question I get a lot. We have had great experiences on Royal Caribbean but our favorite is Celebrity. You can’t go wrong with either of them. And always try to get a window or balcony room because the scenery is absolutely gorgeous.

Your cruise will likely leave from Vancouver which is a beautiful city with lots places to visit like Stanley park, museums, good restaurants and day excursions to Victoria.  If you have the chance to see the Butchart Gardens, its a must.

I have lots more information about traveling and cruising so stay tuned!
