Cancer Prevention: Why You Should Practice Dry Body Brushing

I just started the practice of Dry Body Brushing a few weeks ago when I got a really nice body brush and a lovely oil from ChingerChi.  Since then, I do a body brush every evening before my night time shower. While the water heats up, I start from the bottom and work my way up my body.

At first I was doing it too hard- my skin was hurting and it turned red. But now I think I’ve got the hang of it!

Benefits of Dry Body Brushing include:

Releases toxins

Spreads energy through your chakras

Softens hard fat below the skin

Relieves stress & tension

Calms the mind

Aids in digestion

Stimulates circulation

Activates the lymphatic systems – good for cellulite

Strengthens the immune system by removing toxins

Removes dead skin

Helps with cell renewal

According to Natural News, “Dry brushing is an effective way to maximize the toxin elimination channels of the skin.” Its a popular practice at cancer healing places and is said to help prevent cancer due to the removal of toxins.

You can do a dry brushing twice a day although I prefer once a day because its still pretty new to me. Skin should be dry (hence, dry brushing) and you should only brush up towards the heart in long sweeping motions. Be gentle- you want to feel invigorated, not in pain.

Use a brush with bristles like this one from GingerChi- its natural with stiff bristles. According to GingerChi,

Dry brushing is all about helping to move any stagnation in the lymphatic fluid and in skin cell turnover. The GingerChi Meridian Dry Brush System is also designed to move any stagnant Chi.  Each brush includes a diagram that shows a method for brushing to achieve optimal Chi.  Long term stuck or blocked Chi causes stress on the body is often the root cause of disease.”

This high quality brush is ideal. I had been using a brush with synthetic bristles and a plastic handle, the difference  between that and the GingerChi Meridian Dry Brush (made from the natural fibers of sisal plant) is night and day. A diagram of proper dry brushing is also included with the brush.

After dry brushing my whole  body, I like to apply a nourishing oil like  the Juniper Replenishing Body Oil. This soothing oil contains “Juniper and Cypress which assist with detoxification by ridding the body of excess water.  Grapefruit helps break up fatty tissue while Lemon strengthens veins and assists with the prevention of variscosities.” It’s the ideal accompaniment to the dry brushing.

I would not have begun the healthy habit of body brushing had I not started doing it with the GingerChi brush and oil. For more on this fabulous brand, go here!
