You probably have seen the word Alkaline before. Previously, I thought it related to a battery but it terms of health, it has to do with the pH balance of our bodies. pH Balance- what’s that? Yeah, exactly. Don’t you  hate it when those words are thrown around and no one explains what they mean? And you don’t want to ask for fear of looking dumb? Hey, I got your back.

A pH is the measure of how acidic or alkaline we are. For those of you who want to go deep into an explanation, here you go:

“Water is the most abundant compound in the human body, comprising 70% of the body. The body has an acid-alkaline (or acid-base) ratio called the pH which is a balance between positively charges ions (acid-forming) and negatively charged ions (alkaline-forming.) The body continually strives to balance pH. When this balance is compromised many problems can occur.”

In layman’s terms, you don’t want to have a body full of acid. Many foods create acid which causes health troubles. You want a good balance, more alkaline not  acid. The idea behind eating more alkaline foods is to have a balanced body and a balanced body is a healthy one. Right?

Here what this guy says about it and his opinion is harrowing:

Stay away from meat, fish, poultry, dairy products, processed foods, white sugar, white flour, and caffeine. No coffee! Say what?

“The alkaline diet is basically healthy,” says Marjorie Nolan, RD, an American Dietetic Association spokeswoman. “It’s a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of water, avoiding processed foods, coffee, and alcohol, which are all recommendations for a generally healthy diet anyway.”

Oh my gosh, when trying to be healthy and balanced, there is so much to learn! So much memory recall! 

The easiest (remember how lazy I said I was in the post below?) way to get your body in a nice alkaline state is to add lemon or lime to your water. I drink a lot of water all day so to slice up some lemon is super simple and gets the job done. Refer to the chart above to help with choosing the proper foods for a good  balance.
