It’s hard to choose a favorite element from Jennifer Lopez’s look from her appearance at PURE nightclub in Las Vegas. Her tousled half-updo, understated nude lip, and clean complexion hit all the right notes, but her silver smoky eye…well, that brought everything together. I love how the intense shimmer on the inner corners of her eyes gave the classic shadow a modern edge.
To recreate the star’s look, I asked smoky eye expert, and celebrity makeup artist Beth Bender her tips on getting J-Lo’s super, sultry eyes. “Every makeup artist will tell you it’s all about the layering, and they are right. Layering not only helps to keep the color looking fresh, and last even longer, but it gives your smoky eyes the depth they need for results you will love.
To get Jennifer’s look, start by layering a dark black base shadow on your entire eyelid area. Use a fuller eyeshadow brush and sweep along lid. Add another layer but this time press the color into eyelid. Next, using a silver shadow, apply color first with the pads of your index finger and press into eyelid. Since the tiny flecks of shimmer tend to get everywhere, this will help to prevent that and keep them put.
Finish by adding another layer of silver shimmer but this time using a dome-shaped eye shadow brush to blend color and smooth out any hard edges. For the final J-Lo touch using the same brush sweep color along the inner eye area.
